Joshua goes out to feed the cats and yells back that Muffy has caught a mouse. A little while later he comes in and says it looks like a scorpion, not a mouse. So we go out and this is what we find the cats playing with. Looks like this one is great with child! Cray fish, I think they are called.

So... do they just pop out of the ground there, or what?
Hmmm.... another reason to pack up and leave.
Crayfish?!?!? Would that have been from the pond?
Josh must have been very intrigued by this. I would have loved to see it...VERY Cool!
I just took a closer look...that thing had eggs in it!

These Crayfish are native to Manitoba, from what I have read. They live in waterways, ponds, etc. Since we have two ponds I'm assuming that is where our Crayfish came from. I am also assuming one of the cats dragged it up to the house. Yes, this one is obviously a female, or a male with gender issues!
Rusty Crayfish: Apparently they are NOT native to Manitoba and are invasive and a great concern to the government. I think ours is NOT a Rust Crayfish due to its lack of rusty color (or colour if it pleases you!) and the small size of the claws.
Cray fish caviar! Hmmmmm, yummy! I bet the cat wasn't happy when Joshua took her supper. I bet the boys were absolutely thrilled. Good shots Tim! How did Sam and Joe like this critter?
What did you do with it now? Preserve it in alcohol? Can't quite tell how big it is because there is nothing to measure it against. I read that link Evi - very interesting! Crayfish in MB! Wow!
Karin: I don't know what SAM thought of it, but Jo was excited! We just left it for the cats. It is about the size of a mouse (3 inches long).
Yikes! I meant SIMON and Jo! That's what happens when you have sooooo many grandchildren!
Any nibbles or prospects on the house??? You're in our thoughts and prayers all the time. Give big bear hugs to my boys!
I think Karin should start a blog!
Karin just might do that when she retires. You'll have to teach her!
